Mark Ormrod MBE is a former Royal Marines Commando from Plymouth, the UK’s first triple amputee to survive the Afghanistan conflict, Britain’s most decorated Invictus Games athlete, a keynote speaker and the author of Man Down. Not a life coach. He’d want that on the record early.
The day everything changed
On Christmas Eve 2007, on a routine foot patrol in Afghanistan, Mark stepped on an IED. The blast took both his legs and his right arm. He was pronounced dead twice on the operating table. He came back both times.
Fourteen weeks after arriving at Headley Court he was back on the parade ground — not because he felt ready, but because he’d picked the work and kept showing up for it. That distinction — standards over feelings, discipline over motivation — became the operating system for everything that followed.
Since then
- MBE — appointed for services to veterans and the military community.
- Eleven Invictus Games medals — Britain’s most decorated Invictus athlete.
- Author — Man Down, the story, and The 1% Mindset, the system. Both in the shop.
- Speaker — keynotes that recalibrate, not motivate, from boardrooms to an Oxford Union standing ovation.
- Pride of Britain award recipient.
- REORG trustee — helping injured veterans and emergency services personnel rebuild through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
- Co-founder of Kaizen Summit and father of three, still in Plymouth.
What he does now
Mark speaks to organisations that want their people recalibrated, not entertained — the story is the proof, the system is the point. He writes essays on discipline and standards, publishes a weekly newsletter, and built a free Resilience Scorecard that tells you which of the five standards to fix first.
